We offer a variety of digital photo finishing services at very reasonable prices, for a wide range of customers. Whatever your digital imaging needs, from small format to large format photos, everything that leaves our door is optimized for maximum fidelity and print permanence. So whether you need a print from original artwork, scanned film, or from your own digital file, we can print a presentation quality image to meet your needs.
Photo Scanning Services:
We offer two types of scanning services; drum scans on our Howtek HiResolve 8000 and flatbed scans on our Epson 10000XL-GA. We can scan prints, transparencies, and film. Your final print dimensions, print quality, and the type of original material to be scanned will determine what type of scanner to use, and more importantly, what file size you need to meet your goals. The "Scanning/Printing Calculator" at www.scantips.com will give you a good estimate to determine file size needed relative to desired print size, and also offers a lot of other good information about scanning. Depending on the quality and size of the original image, a larger file size will generate large format high resolution prints. Please call for a specific quote for a final size and price.
We print at 360dpi, so when figuring your file size, input this figure into the calculator along with your final print dimensions to get a final file size. All scans are done in 16-bit unless otherwise specified. Our scans include basic color work and clean-up of our dust or air bubbles and a CD or DVD. Major color correction, restoration and clean-up are charged at an hourly rate of $100.00 and billed in 15 minute increments. See our photo scanning pricing information.
Giclée Printing and Digital Photo Printing:
We use inkjet printers to accommodate hobbyists, portrait photographers, fine print artists, art consultants, restaurants, architects, interior designers, businesses and others who want a professional print. The bottom line is that no matter where you fall on the spectrum, you are going to get the highest quality print possible. Our Epson 11880 has the capacity to print wide format photos up to 60" wide in either color or black and white on a variety of quality photo papers, watercolor papers, and canvas material. Please visit www.giclee-information.org for more information on the history of digital inkjet printing.
We also employ a dedicated black & white Epson 9600 inkjet photo printer that has the ability to print up to 44" monochromatic images using seven shades of carbon pigment ink. The advantage of this method is its resistance to fade and color shift (print permanence), as well as exceptional tonal range and print sharpness. See our print pricing information.
Fine Art Reproduction:
A specialty for Roach Photos is fine art reproduction and printing using either digital or film-based techniques. We make a 4"x5" or 8"x10" color film transparency of your artwork, and then scan the film on our drum scanner to produce a high resolution file. We then collaborate with the artist to produce the most faithful reproduction possible, which is often nearly indistinguishable from the original. In addition to any prints, the client will also receive a CD or DVD of their file, as well as the transparency.
For someone who wants to calibrate their own printer, we also offer custom ICC profiling. A custom profile takes much of the guess work out of digital printing; however it is of little use if not implemented in conjunction with a calibrated monitor. See www.x-rite.com for monitor calibration solutions. As every printer, ink, and paper combination will behave differently, ICC profiling helps to account for that difference, so when you tell your software to print a certain color, you and the printer are on the same page about how that color should look. For anyone interested in having a custom profile built, we will provide you with a color chart to be printed on the media of your choice. We will then read your patches on our Gretag-Macbeth Spectroscan, and generate a profile to be loaded into your image editing software. Please note, that this is a very simplified explanation of the process, contact us for more detailed instructions. Prices start at $75.00 for this service.
For customers who want to send large files via the internet, you can use our FTP link. Please contact us so that we can give you detailed instructions for your file preparation and for login information.
